World Boss Legend Preparations

The main hurdle for new players is the first clear of a World Boss Legend.

Some accounts may already have all the ingredients needed for a clear, others may have to go back and build up more characters first.

You do not have to meet all of the criteria below to be able to clear WBL, especially if your main is above Lv.70, but the more the better. This guide can be used to help for higher World Bosses or for general PvE advice.

  • Character and Team Builds

    Character and Team Builds

    DPS Build

The following questions all relate to the character build of your Main/DPS character.

See Part 3 of the Beginner's Guide if you are unsure about any of the below.

    Beginner's Guide (Part 3)

    • 1. Custom Gear

Do you have a "proc" Obelisk or PvE C.T.P. equipped?

    • 1a. (Optional) C.T.P.

If you have a C.T.P. equipped, is it a good C.T.P. for PvE, and is it rolled to the max proc?

    • 2. Stats

Do you have maxed Skill Cooldown (50%) and high Ignore Defense (40% or more)?

    • 3. Skills

Have you levelled all the important Skills to Lv.6?

    • 4. Uru

Do you have 8 Attack Urus equipped in Amplified slots? (HP Urus in the case of Hulk)

    • 5. ISO-8

Have you rolled one of the three Attack sets (Power of Angry Hulk, Hawk's Eye, Overdrive) and have the set bonus active?

    Team Setup

The following relates to your 3-character team setup.

See the "Team Building" section of Part 4 of the Beginner's Guide for advice.

    Beginner's Guide (Part 4)

    • 1. Lead/Support

Do you have any appropriate T3 or TP Lead/Support characters to buff your Main/DPS?
(If not, refer to Part 1 of the Beginner's Guide for recommendations.)

    • 2. Team Slots

Is your team set up so that the strongest Leadership applies?

    • 3. Suitability

Make sure that your support effects all apply to your Main/DPS (e.g. BP2 Shuri's lead only applies to Speed types).

    Strikers

See the World Boss Striker Rankings guide for recommendations.

    World Boss Striker Rankings

    • 1. Ignore Dodge

If your DPS character is at Lv.70, are you using 1-3 Ignore Dodge Strikers?

    • 2. Other Damage Strikers

Are the rest of your Striker slots providing useful damage buffs?

    Cards, Swords, Stats

The following relates to account-wide stat boosts, from Cards, Swords, and Alliance buffs.

See the Card related sections at the bottom of Parts 1 and 2 of the Beginner's Guide for advice, and the X of Swords Guide for Swords info.

    Beginner's Guide (Part 2)

    X of Swords Guide

    • 1. Cooldown

Is your combined Cooldown from Cards/Swords at around 28-32%?

    • 2. Ignore Defense

Is your Ignore Defense from Cards at aroud 28-32%?
(Less crucial than Cooldown, but still very important.)

    • 3. Alliance

Are you in a max level (Lv.30) Alliance?

    • 4. Swords

Do you have one Sword of each colour equipped with at least +3 each?
(This is quite easy to achieve and provides significant attack boosts.)

    Rotations

The following relates to your Main/DPS character's skill rotations.

See Part 5 of the Beginner's Guide for rotation advice.

    Beginner's Guide (Part 5)

    • 1. Rotations

Do you know the skill rotation of your Main/DPS?

    • 2. Procs

Do you know which skill to proc on?

    • 3. Missed Procs

Do you know how to tell when you have missed a proc?

    Boss Rotations

Generally, boss attacks that are coloured red can be prevented by i-frames, damage immunity, or invincibility. Attacks in purple are only avoidable by moving out of the way, though you usually get time to do so.

Each World Boss has a bunch of "phases", separated by cutscenes. Each phase has a standard set of moves that the boss will rotate through (though there can be some randomness). Knowing these moves in advance will help if you are dying a lot, as you will be able to anticipate when to stop using skills and dodge.

This is one case where looking up videos is a very useful source of information.

    Level Mechanics

The main challenge of your first WBL clear is that the first two bosses, Knull and Mephisto, are Lv.72. Most new players will have their eligible characters at Lv.70.

In PvE gamemodes, an opponent that is higher level than you will have greatly increased defense and dodge stats - this is referred to as "level advantage". This is also why Lv.72+ characters are way stronger against Knull and Mephisto, as they are now equal or higher level, and no longer "level disadvantaged".

The main issue is that you need to clear WBL with Lv.70 characters before you can Realise 2nd Potential and start levelling to 72. The nice part is that you only need one team to clear at Lv.70, then use that team to bring other Main/DPS characters in (either on the team, or as Strikers) to Realise their 2nd Potential. Then you can bring everyone to Lv.72 and up.

A way around this is to wait for a "2nd Potential Realization Ticket" (given in the 90-Day New/Returning Player Check-In) to bring your best DPS to Lv.72, which should allow you to cakewalk Knull and Mephisto straight away. Consider this a cheat code if you really can't clear WBL at Lv.70, but it is definitely doable.

    Misc. Tips
    1. Try both Knull and Mephisto for your first clear. Many players find Mephisto easier, especially if your Main/DPS is Speed or Universal type, for type advantage. If your Main/DPS is Combat, Mephisto might be harder.
    2. Remember you can tag out to a support character if you are about to be "caught" in an attack you can't dodge.
    3. Pressing the purple "co-op skill" button, if available, can provide about a second of invincibility.
