2024 Rework Poll Review

Uniform priorities for roughly the past year and a half were influenced by a "Rework Poll" that was available in-game. This allowed players to select the top 15 characters they wished to see updated, as a way to pretend to get user feedback. With Medusa's uniform being added recently, we are finally finished, with the top 15 poll characters all receiving new uniforms.

As a result, we had something of a roadmap to see which characters were confirmed updates on the horizon. This seemingly did drive whole update themes (e.g. 10.0 ticking off 4 characters), though they got lazy towards the end and had the final 3 on the poll be paywall seasonals.

It should be noted that the character options in-game were preselected by Netmarble, so players were not choosing from the entire roster. This explains puzzling picks like Anti-Man and Weapon Hex making it to the top 15.

Overall this was kind of a flop as:

• Only a handful of the reworked characters were actually any good
• It was not an accurate predictor of update themes outside of maybe grouping Mister Fantastic and Doctor Doom together, and Agent Venom and Knull
• The options were pre-decided by Netmarble so it wasn't ever really listening to feedback
• It dragged on so long that two of the characters (Sentry and Mister Fantastic) got a 2nd post-poll uniform while others were still waiting for their first
• Every single female character on the poll was paywalled.

Never do this shit again.

  Actually Good

  • Knull [Ancient History]

    Despite many wanting this to be a PvE uniform, this came in and immediately joined Sentry as the top PvP uniforms in the game. Still the case at the moment.

  • Sentry [Merged]

    Broke the PvP meta, but comes in second as [Merged] has been replaced with [Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts*], and Knull is generally better.

  • Hulk [Titan]

    Fantastic uniform visually and is still relevant in ABX/L, while being a free Native Tier-1 character.

  • Psylocke [Summer Vacation]

    Paywall seasonal uniform, but one of the best in recent times, immediately taking over 2 ABL days. Still strong in modes like WBL and GBR nowadays, but largely replaced by Storm.

  • Crescent [B-Girl Crew]

    Not that good in isolation, but the first proper Combat Female Hero Human to get a Tier-4, and has a place in the Alliance Battle meta as a result.

  Niche PvP Mains

  • Doctor Doom [God Emperor]

    Solid but not good enough to be viable in Timeline, and fell well short of expectations for such a popular and expensive character.

  • Emma Frost [Summer Queen]

    Paywall seasonal uniform, not amazing but solid enough if you have her Artifact (which adds Reflect).

  • Apocalypse [Heralds of Apocalypse]

    Another disappointing Native Tier-2 rework, not even close to Timeline meta and requires Artifact for his revive.

  Supports

  • Agent Venom [Guardians of the Galaxy]

    Solid PvP uniform and support for Symbiotes. Finds a lot of use with Knull and Silver Surfer's PvP dominance, and also works with Venom in PvE.

  • Weapon Hex [Infected Bioweapon]

    Paywall seasonal uniform with some unique supports for Zombie types, most useful in Otherworld Battle. Had no reason to be on the poll, so her being niche is harmless.

  • Medusa [Ancient Curse]

    Paywall seasonal uniform with terrible damage and an unharmonious set of support passives. The streak of Inhumans being shafted continues.

  • War Machine [Invincible Iron Man]

    Terrible showing for the 2nd place on the poll. A dedicated support for Iron Man, who isn't even that good.

  Fodder

  • Quicksilver [Mighty Avengers]

    Decent but unremarkable PvP character, thanks to having no meta PvP passives (e.g. revive or immortality).

  • Mister Fantastic [The Fall of the Fantastic Four]

    Had no impact and was replaced with the [Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps] uniform, which also had no impact.

  • Anti-Man [Ultimates]

    Had no reason to be on the poll and was the only character that was Tier-2, so he only got a Tier-3 with his uniform. Looks great but not useful for anything, even with his decent leadership.
