Primary Recommendations
These are the most recommended characters to pick. They will be listed with their relevant uniforms, which are must-haves.
Shuri [Lead + Support]
Shuri [Lead + Support]
Super important Support character that is also a lead with the latest uniform.
Every account should have her at Tier-3 as she is extremely useful even in lategame.
Taskmaster [Support]
Taskmaster [Support]
Still one of the most useful supports in the game with his uniform.
Additionally he is new to this Anniversary's Tier-3 Selector, making him a good choice: most of the other options here can be chosen from regular Tier-3 Selectors that are given out more frequently.
Spider-Man [Main]
Spider-Man [Main]
Great hybrid character with Back to Basics uniform, though he leans PvP especially in late-game.
A good pick if you haven't done your Tier-3 Guided Quests yet, as you can pick Spider-Man after he is Tier-3 from the Selector, and the Guided Quest will give you materials that you can then use on other characters that are not frequently found in Tier-3 Selectors.
She-Hulk
She-Hulk
Great lead that works against Males - becomes stronger with uniforms, but not strictly required.
Also one of the better Combat Female ABX characters with the latest uniform, but rqeuires a Rage for that.
Hela [Lead + Support + Main]
Hela [Lead + Support + Main]
Very versatile character, with a great Energy Attack lead, support against heroes, and viable in both PvP (with Artifact) and PvE (mostly for WBL).
Additional Support Recommendations
These are not glowing recommendations, but if you need some more supports and have all the above already (or they are close enough to Tier-3 manually that you feel it would be wasted), consider these. Uniforms are not shown here as they are not highly recommended.

Great support but only if you have her Halloween exclusive uniform and somehow don't have her Tier-3 already.

Very strong PvE character, sure to be a staple from early to mid game, but not that useful later on.

Another great PvE character, but hard to build (Rage pretty much required) and doesn't have too many places she is useful in.

This is if none of the above interest you, and you're just wanting to pick characters that you hope will become good in later MCU tie-in updates.

Primary Recommendations
These are the most recommended characters to pick. Uniforms are required for all three shown. Unlike the Tier-3 Selector and Premium Tier-2 Selector recommendations, they kind of fall of a cliff after this section: the "Additional" recommendations are much much worse.

Another solid proc-friendly Alliance Battle-centric character - though he needs a Rage when he hits TIer-4.
As most the Beginner's Guide recommendations are for Heroes, it might be nice to diversify with a Villain too.

A great lead and support for Combat types, and can do a bit of work as a main in Alliance Battle Extreme too.
Additional Support Recommendation
Not a glowing recommendations but if you need some supports and have all the above already, consider Medusa. Optional uniform shown.

A pretty mediocre 36% All Attack lead for Universals.
With her uniform, becomes a nice dual lead + support for Inhuman characters, but Black Bolt with his [Fallen Soul] (Halloween exclusive) uniform is the only Inhuman that is relevant now, and he has his own lead, so she's just a support for him.
Titania [Lead]

Decent enough 50% Physical Attack lead for Combats.
With her uniform, increases to 60% and an additional 25% for Strong allies. Also kind of decent for Combat Female/Villain ABX.
Additional Main Recommendation
Also not a glowing recommendation, but if you like him or have a good use for him, Gamora isn't the worst. Uniform required.

Has a nice lead for Speeds, and a decent proc-friendly character herself.
Has a few ABX/ABL days but isn't better than Luna Snow.

Free Tier-2 Premium Selector
This comes from the event S.H.I.E.L.D. Archive reward. This is usually a bit of a grind to get the final reward.
Note on Availability
This Selector gives an unrestricted selection of any Premium character, meaning it is the only way for a pure F2P player to reliably get "hard paywall" Premiums (or at least until next year's Anniversary). For this reason, some players might choose to only select "hard paywall" characters because they see that as more valuable, as they can slowly farm the ones that can be unlocked for free instead.
Additionally, some players may value taking a Mutant character more, since the X-Gene Daily subscription has less overall value. If you were only going to commit to one of the subscriptions, you would probably choose the Biometrics one, so picking one of the few useful Mutants here might be wise in that case.
The selections below may slightly take the above into account, but mostly is just a ranking of usefulness regardless of acquisition methods. The final line in each description will state which subscription they are from, and how to acquire them for free (if any way exists). If these are concerns for you, you may rank them differently from below based on that information.

These are the most recommended characters to pick. Valkyrie is listed with her relevant uniform.

Very strong support for all characters, and useful as a main as well, especially early-game.
Biometric character, can be farmed from Dimension Missions slowly, or bought from Legendary Battle for 2500 Crystals (largely seen as a waste).
Polaris [Lead + Support + Main]
Polaris [Lead + Support + Main]
Excellent lead and support for Mutants, and a decent early-game main. A good ABL character too if you don't have Storm's [Krakoan Summer] uniform.
X-Gene character, and hard paywall.
Ghost Panther [Lead + Support]
Ghost Panther [Lead + Support]
A good lead for Fire Damage characters, and a great support for anyone. Works especially well with Jean Grey in PvE.
Biometric character, can be farmed from Dimension Missions slowly.
Nick Fury [Lead + Support]
Nick Fury [Lead + Support]
Fantastic Lead + Support for Heroes, though he is somewhat limited in restrictions.
Biometric character, can be bought from Legendary Battle for 2500 Crystals (largely seen as a waste).

A great lead and support for Blast types, but not many places you can use her.
Biometric character, can be farmed from Dimension Missions slowly.

Strong lead for Combats. Her [Light Sirius Armor] uniform expands this to all characters, but is probably not worth getting.
Being one of MFF's original characters, Crescent also has a decent chance of getting a new uniform and Tier-4 sometime in the future, but she has never historically been that strong.
Biometric character, can be farmed from Dimension Missions slowly.
Echo / Maya Lopez [Lead]
Echo / Maya Lopez [Lead]
Strong lead for Fire Damage characters, which turns into a lead for Speed types with her [Marvel Studios' Hawkeye] uniform (though Wave is the better leadership in the Speed Human Female category).
She also has a Disney+ show coming out sometime in the next year or so, which she will almost certainly get a new uniform and Tier-4 with, though it's a while away.
Biometric character, and hard paywall.
Dazzler [Support]
Dazzler [Support]
Really good Mutant support, but doesn't have a 6th skill, meaning you can't bring her into World Boss Legend.
Despite this, she is still a key support for a couple of Alliance Battle Legend days, and is sure to be a mainstay once she gets a Tier-3 or Transcended skill.
X-Gene character, and hard paywall.

Secret Shop
Basics
It may be useful to watch a video about the Secret Shop. It is likely the biggest Crystal sink of Black Friday and Anniversary events, and contains very worthwhile rewards.
Like a game of Bingo, your goal is to complete 5 lines of a 5x5 grid.
- A random square is filled when you purchase an item for Crystals.
- Each line you complete has a reward you can claim.
- Once you complete 5 lines, you can choose to progress to the last board, or continue on the current board for more line rewards.
For those that played during the Black Friday 2023 event, the Line Rewards and Item Shop are the exact same. The Board Rewards are also mostly the same, except the Selectors have larger pools of items (Mighty/Brilliant Conquest for C.T.P. Selectors, more Artifacts for Artifact Selectors).
