11.7 Update Recap - Uncanny X-Men

Introduction

Mutant updates continue to be very rare but always seem to deliver, and this Uncanny X-Men update stays the course. Much like the "Mighty Machines" update before it, this comes with 6 new Tier-4 Advancements, 5 of which are Blast.

While there isn't a singular standout meta character this update, most of the updated characters are useful in some way, and better support passives always help. Pretty good for a "filler" Mutant update that doesn't feature any of the usual meta characters like Jean or Wolverine.

This update also came alongside the new Agent Growth Training system. This is mostly covered in other Daily Buggle articles and the Beginner's Guide so it will not have its own section here, but it is an excellent addition and being available to existing players is the cherry on top.

    Uncanny X-Men
    Dazzler [X-Song]
    Dazzler [X-Song]

The easiest recommendation of the update. Not too much to say about her, she was already a fantastic support and becomes even better. The Tier-4 allows her to enter WBL+ which augments Storm significantly.

    Polaris [Uncanny X-Men]
    Polaris [Uncanny X-Men]

Another solid support pickup. This one is a bit more interesting with the swap to Villain and a better Support Passive that increases damage to non-Mutants. There aren't too many Mutant enemies in PvP that you need to worry about but worth keeping in mind.

The change in tags adds some versatility, opening up 3 ABX days (Villain Mutant, Blast Villain, Villain Female) when her base outfit had 0. She does lose the Blast Hero ABL day, but not a huge loss as Cyclops was already a better leader than her there.

Definitely worth buying although the design is a little silly.

    Canny X-Men
    Crystal [Spring Lady]
    Crystal [Spring Lady]

A strong PvE character with amazing model and skill design, and one of the better non-support paywall seasonals in recent memory.

She is clearly designed to cover the Inhumans ABL day, though it is dubious to invest in a single character for 1 restriction every month, even if she wasn't asking for real money. She is also not significantly better than Kamala despite the cost, and getting supports for her is a pain - Black Bolt's leadership is locked behind an outdated seasonal, and Medusa's support is locked behind another paywall seasonal.

The definition of a luxury choice if you have all the other important ABX/L days covered already. She is also just very fun to play and has a great rotation and animations, especially for a Transcended character.

    Kid Omega [Uncanny X-Men]
    Kid Omega [Uncanny X-Men]

Solid upgrade to what has always been a high-DPS character, providing an alternative to Gambit in PvE. Similar animations to his old uniform so he remains easy to play for newer players.

With the revamp to ABX/L restrictions, a strong Blast Male Mutant becomes a lot more important with 1 ABX and 2 ABL days. If you missed Gambit's seasonal uniform, definitely a good pickup. If you have Gambit already though, there is not much use in building him.

    Silver Samurai
    Silver Samurai

Awesome addition to the game with a great design. Probably most notable is his decent Mutant support passive which helps fill a few gaps in PvE (Male Mutant ABX and ABL).

As a main, he is geared towards PvP and does an okay job for a no-uniform Native Tier-1. He's not a meta contender obviously, but pairs nicely with other Mutant characters with the support, has a 40% HP leadership which can help, and can do decent work in TBA / AC / potentially OWB depending on restrictions.

Pretty good overall for a PvP character and it helps that he has some other uses if you're not interested in the minor PvP modes.

    Stryfe [The Tyrant of Spring]
    Stryfe [The Tyrant of Spring]

Somewhat out of pocket uniform that may have been a leftover candidate from the "Winter Clones" seasonals for Christmas. Perhaps they thought that 2 Native Tier-2s would be overdoing it. Either way he has arrived now as "the tyrant of spring".

As expected from the direction of his last uniform, this is unfortunately a PvP-only upgrade. The most notable PvP effect is a 7-second Immortality followed by a guaranteed death, similar to Weapon Hex's Zombie passive. This will undoubtedly be useful but also clashes with his healing Artifact somewhat. He also retains the debuff removal on his Uniform Passive, though there are other options that provide this now.

Despite all the costs associated (Deluxe Pack, upgrading a Native Tier-2, buying a full cost seasonal uniform) he's still not amazing anywhere outside AC:

    1. Not good enough to be Timeline Battle meta vs. Knull's much better Immortality passive or Sentry/Kang's revives.
    2. Solid for Otherworld Battle, though he will be debuffed most/all the time in Vibranium+. (Immortality mitigates this somewhat but still not ideal.)
    3. Good for Team Battle Arena on paper, but being a Native Tier-2 means his cost is high and may not be using over two other characters.

May be useful to some, but too high a cost for most for niche PvP uses only. Stryfe was ABX meta when he debuted and that would have been a far more interesting direction to take, given the amount of ABX/L restrictions he is eligible for after the mode was reworked.

    Can'ty X-Men
    Fantomex
    Fantomex
    Exodus
    Exodus

Exodus may be useful in AC here and there. Fantomex should really have a uniform by now.
